Totally agree... when I move to Tucson, I plan to generate all the power my EV (auto) needs, plus house.

In Tony Seba's more recent speech (South Korea, maybe 10 months ago, on youtube), he talks about the rise of huge battery packs and how it will bring an end to 'peak power' because companies will do their own arbitrage of power rates.

In Germany there are already times when industry is literally paid to get the power off the grid (e.g. wind blowing, they don't want to shut down turbines). Cost effective battery packs (think shipping container-sized) means a lot of power can be pulled off and then used internally later when power rates go back up. Container of batteries pays for itself in no time.

Coming to a home near you in ten years -- refridgerator-sized battery pack for the same sort of purpose but for a homeowner in Phoenix etc.

I used to think we would have an energy poor future due to Goldman Sachs manipulating the crap out of the oil market 11 years ago. Now I realize we are going to have an incredibly energy rich future.

Which is why Trump is trying to kill off the solar installation industry, to retard the US transformation and therefore benefit the Koch Bros et al. All it will do is penalize the US economy for a generation as we fall hopelessly behind China India Germany etc.

The world will evolve with or without us.
