That's fine, but there is not a shred of evidence it would matter and it isn't remotely feasible, politically. So, in truth, it is immaterial as an idea, at most aspirational.

Our right to possess guns is not merely about hunting. It is about self-protection, collectors, defending one's property, and numerous other causes. Each of which are entitlements under our Constitution and most of which have substantial support. OTOH, the temptation for idiot politicians to bow to pressure is great, so it could happen.

My personal view is we should do the math here and figure out how best to solve the problem rather than going off half cocked, so to speak.
