The majority of guns used during crimes in Chicago come from nearby states with very lax gun control laws.

That claim, by the mayor of Chicago, is highly questionable, based solely (supposedly) on 7000 guns that were actually confiscated. Still, it says nothing about gun control functionality EXCEPT that if you ban guns in the US people will get them from Mexico. Precisely the same as with the War on Drugs, Prohibition, and others such bans. We know they don't work.

Rahm is not above rigging the numbers, I would point out.
