I would call it political spin.

But sure, if you make it hard to get guns in Chicago and it is easy next door, you're going to have some come from next door. Nothing strange about that. One cannot infer that making it hard to get everywhere does anything but create a bigger black market with more demand. People who want guns are going to have them.

It is important to note that we kind of know the bounds of what localities can do based on the Heller decision. So, unless you can get 2/3 of states onboard there will be no outright ban other than particular types (i.e., the assault weapon is probably about it).

And I think you're bright enough to know that doesn't make an appreciable difference. A shotgun with buckshot can kill as many or more than an assault weapon in some of these environments. Although it does take a few seconds longer to reload.

Once again, this issue is about diversion. The important point is NOT the type of gun. It is who is holding it. And that doesn't change.


After the ban, and I'm guessing it will eventually happen, some idiot will quickly prove that it didn't work by taking out as many people as possible.
