I won't speak for Tim, but my observation is not that "nothing can be done." I've spoken here for at least two things I believe are essential to ending this problem, neither of which involved gun control.

Any reasonable person can see that gun control is a non-starter when there are 100s of millions (~300 million?) of guns on the streets already. There is no putting that toothpaste back into the tube.

Honestly, gun control in the US is a pretty stupid idea if you give it a minute's thought.
