I wonder if the purpose of the Russian exercise isn't to perhaps stampede Western governments and businesses, (particularly US), to do things which will constrain free comment and discussion online.

I wonder cuz size of the effort certainly had no material effect on election or political scene after. So I ask what other purpose?

I've also wondered if it wasn't just a research project. Online "reconnaissance" of US political/social resilliance, as it were.

What was the purpose of free hotdogs in Central Park, for instance? It wasn't just a prank. What were they measuring?
