His (CJ's) comment, "just so others can play with deadly weapons.", is where the message spins out of control. That is not what we're talking about here.

While Trump intelligently, imo, banned the "bump stocks" today (which of course, matters not one iota since they're undoubtedly all over the place by now), banning the guns themselves will do nothing. So, it isn't an either/or decision. Banning the guns has not been shown to save lives, and is highly unlikely to do so.

If, in a perfect world, we could ban every gun in the country and confiscate them, you'll never get all of them without a house-to-house search. And the ones you don't get are the ones you need to get. I have no doubt the 10,000 gun murders/year would decline. But you'd still have murders by other modalities. Then what?

This isn't about people wanting to play with deadly weapons. This is about one of the fundamental rights Americans have and yes, it would require a constitutional amendment to change that, which isn't happening.

I don't know why Americans have such a difficult time focusing on problems and potential solutions rather than getting submerged in unrelated minutia.
