Mike Groh's promotion from WR coach to Offensive Coordinator is confiemed and Duce becomes Assistant Head Coach for Doug Pederson while maintaing his Running Backs Coach position. >> Eagles promote Duce Staley to assistant head coach Turron Davenport Eagles Wire February 21, 2018 msn.com Despite not being named offensive coordinator in Philadelphia, Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley still received a promotion. The team promoted Staley to assistant head coach, a role he will add to his duties as a position coach. Losing out to Mike Groh for the offensive coordinator position shouldn't hurt Staley's chances of becoming a head coach in the future. Staley interviewed for the Eagles head coach position before the team hired Pederson in 2016. Staley broke into the NFL as an assistant special teams coach in 2011, which gave him an opportunity to work with the whole roster instead of a single position group. He can still be seen working with the punt and kickoff returners before practice as well as during the special teams periods. Many of the players that have worked with Staley speak passionately about him. Veteran running back LeGarrette Blount recently called Staley one of the best coaches he has ever played for. Staley's outstanding work truly manifested itself this year when Corey Clement went from undrafted free agent to Super Bowl star for the Eagles. The promotion of Staley is an excellent gesture by the Eagles and further prepares to take the next step in his coaching career. Already known as a leader, he now will get to be more involved in setting the itinerary for the team. - Eric L. -
