So your point is what? That having allowed things to get so far out of hand that we should not try to do anything along the line of keeping it from getting worse?

To answer your question, First I would say that there are not 300million assault rifles out there...the answers are obvious if one wants to really make things better...a questionable premise at best among supporters of "gun rights" by the way.

The owners of the existing ones could be incented ($$) to turn theirs in...a voluntary return of ARs along the lines of a limited program similar to what Australia did would yield some guns...comprehensive BG checks, bans on ARs, better database coordination among the various agencies, education programs...so much can be done, if gun owners actually stood behind what they claim to support in poll after poll.
