I can sense your frustration, but you have conflated a few things. There is a huge difference between communist Russian socialism which was essentially a dictatorship e.g. Stalin, et al, and Democratic socialism that the people vote for e.g. Nordic countries, the happiest and healthiest and freest countries on earth.
Secondly, the social programs dems want to instill are the result of modern social science saying they are the best thing for a healthy society e.g.progressive income tax to prevent income inequality or inhumane private prisons and the need for universal health care and free education and much of the social safety net like food stamps and social security.
As far as education goes, it doesn't matter where one gets their education. My mother grew up in abject poverty the last of 13 children, but she educated herself by reading.
No one should feel bad about not having a formal education, but one does need to inform themselves. And my advice to you is watch MSNBC. Those are the smartest news casters I have ever seen in my life.
Last, I know about poverty and ignorance. I grew up in Richmond California one of the 10 most dangerous cities in the country for murders. No one in my family had ever been to college. I put my self through six years of university with hard work often working the grave yard shift and then going straight to class and I paid every dime myself as my mom was poor.
Watch MSNBC and learn from them.

On climate change, I'd agree with you. Republicans are largely ignoring science, which among Gen X'ers and Millennials is a non-starter. The GOP is out of touch on many issues, just as is the DNC. However, the issue with the latest crop of liberals is that they are very very much out of touch. They are very proud of their education and show open disdain for anyone not as elite as themselves. They think they are smarter than everyone else and believe that their education makes them smarter, but I will tell you that education is not equivalent to smarts or common sense. Sometimes evidence of education is just evidence of privilege that others do not have. Then there is this persistent and pervasive echo chamber in our universities, where all dissent is being violently shuttered. That's a big problem, because where there is no open debate, there is stagnation and rot. Evidence of this in action is the liberals becoming more socialist by the day, despite all historical data telling us this is a very bad path to follow for the long term. We need less violence and focus on the 10% in this country who have been getting all the airtime and more focus on historical education and issues that are important to the 90% of us who are just hard working, middle class folks trying to feed and raise our families. This is where liberals have lost the thread. Again, their infatuation with socialism is wrong headed. Looks especially at the quotes I highlighted below, if you are interested in understanding what socialism and communism really is, not this academic notion that "socialism is cool".
---------- CNN thinks that socialism is cool. My grandparents from the USSR would disagree. |
