If any of you - like me - have wondered why so much venture funding has been poured into Uber, perhaps the following from my book-in-process will explain.

To illustrate that last sentence, Uber is perhaps the quintessential Unicorn. It was formed in March 2009. In a February 2018 report, The Information revealed that Uber’s 4Q2017 revenues were $11.05 billion. For all of 2017 it can be estimated (1Q2017 revenues were not available)that full year 2017 revenues were a shade over $37 billion. That level of revenues would have ranked Uber in the top 20 percent of the S&P 500, ahead of tried and true companies like Oracle, General Dynamics, 3M and du Pont. Uber achieved that lofty level in just nine years!
