The rest of the time, staff-millennia, they are carrying, at best, dead weight, maybe 15 lbs or so. You realize, of course, that the teacher would have to carry fire power at least equivalent to the potential threat I don't think anyone is envisioning teachers lugging a loaded firearm around the classroom. There would surely be secure arrangements made. Cops (trained personnel) encounter AR15s with some frequency with a semi-auto service pistol. I believe the training brings it to about a 2/3 probability of the cop winning the encounter. Still not great, but better than nothing, which the alternative in the classroom.
