I don't think anyone is envisioning teachers lugging a loaded firearm around the classroom. There would surely be secure arrangements made.

Then they aren't thinking it through. I read that the average incident takes three minutes. It takes some time for an incident out of the blue to register with the teacher. Is this really happening? If the firearm is further away than the top of his desk, there's time wasted. Then you have the kids in your classroom screaming and crying and praying. Do you take a moment to address them? Even if you unceremoniously just push through them and make a mad dash for the hall, you have to figure out where the shots are coming from and track down the shooter, unless, of course, he's right there and shoots you when you open the door. When you track him down, of course he's not going to be standing in the middle of the hall all alone with no victims around him for you to shoot by accident...

And you think that those who want to ban guns are unrealistic?
