I agree with that.
The video i posted a few minutes ago about the "safest" school, offers good ideas, although at considerable cost ($400K, according to the video). Heavy doors with electronic locks don't have to be expensive, though.
The important thing, I think, is to recognize that gun control is a small fraction of a solution. CJ & others have said that, e.g., shotguns aren't as effective as AR15s, but the reality is a shotgun can kill every person huddling in a classroom as quickly as an AR15. Or more quickly, even if there is a reload in the middle.
Both ends of the political spectrum are being unreasonable in some ways. While I can't as easily see armed teachers in NYC schools, a small town school in East Texas may find it is the best option. In my k-12 years, there would have been plenty of people capable of using a gun to defend a classroom. So would the students in my 7-12th grade years. Practically every boy in the classroom (and some girls) were reasonably competent with using guns. |
