ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 12, 1998--

Leading Provider of Video Compression Products Names Executives to Head New Operations

Vela Research Inc., a leading provider of video compression products, today announced the establishment of a new sales
office in Sunnyvale, Calif. Vela's new office will serve the Western United States as well as the Asia Pacific region. Vela
Research also announced that it had named Samuel S. Ng director, business development for Asia Pacific, and Steve Kelly
business development manager, West Coast. "This expansion is in response to Vela's rapidly growing customer base on the
West Coast and the Asia Pacific," said Scott Cooper, president of Vela Research. "The Western United States and the Pacific
Rim represent an important segment of our marketplace. These regions will now have better access to sales and customer
support of Vela's cutting-edge video compression products. We are excited at the prospect of bringing our technology to new
areas of the globe." Samuel S. Ng, director of business development for Asia Pacific, brings 10 years of management
experience in the field to this new position. Ng has over five years experience as the director of business development for
Scitex Corporation, a high tech equipment manufacturer for the graphic arts and publishing industries. Ng has a bachelor of
arts in physics from the International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan. Steve Kelly, business development manager for the
West Coast, brings a strong combination of sales experience and video technology knowledge to the position. Prior to joining
Vela, Kelly spent three years at MountainGate, a Lockheed Martin Company, where he was responsible for key OEM
contracts in the broadcast and post-production industry. Kelly previously spent twelve years at IBM in strategic sales and
