The Broward deputies acted cowardly because they didn't enter the building. The Coral Springs city police showed up and DID. Now I admit, I suspect the Broward deputies were doing what they were ordered or trained to do. But it was absolutely wrong.

I grew up next door to a police officer in our hometown and another one lived several houses up the street. I know for a fact the cop next door to us faced down armed men on two occasions and talked both of them into giving up their weapon. This was more than 50 years ago and they weren't training small town police to fire volleys at every armed man. He put his life on the line twice, disarmed a criminal running from police and an armed drunk, with no casualties. Also no news coverage and no recognition. There is a world of things that never get reported to the public.

Someone who carries a gun and badge every day doesn't know what may happen that day. Many police never fire their weapons in a career. In fact, our neighbor never fired his weapon on the job to my knowledge. He was an unsung unrecognized hero nevertheless.
