Despite having one in your house makes you 3 times more likely to die of gun violence.

In addition to any doubt about the statistics showing the correlation, this is a prime case of remembering that correlation does not equal causation. Someone in a situation where they might be at risk to be shot, is much more likely to want to have a gun.
