I agree if your life is threatened....but the more sensible move would have been to give him the car and send the cops after him...
And then when the carjacker drives erratically (because f--- it, it's not his car), the police will have to back off because lives are being threatened.

Meanwhile insurance is given the bill for the loss. Might end up with higher premiums, but hey, at least no lives were lost.

Net effect: Crime pays very well.
