Van, There was an over all increase of 10% sales in Motorola's Cellular Infrastructure Group (CIG) which bodes well for DSC. It
seems like their CIG division did pretty good and what hurt MOT was
the Semiconductor and their Paging groups. If this is the case then
there will be a positive impact on DSC's stock tomorrow. What I was
very much confused with is the following statement which I am pasting
here from MOT's earning report:

"Cellular Infrastructure Group (CIG) sales were higher, led by
significant increases in Japan and in the Pan American region. Sales
also were higher in the rest of Asia, but were significantly lower in
Europe. Orders declined, as higher orders in the Pan American region
were offset by lower orders in Europe and Japan and significantly lower orders in the rest of Asia."

In the first sentence they are saying that the orders were strong in
Japan which is very good for DSC. Then agin, in the sentence following
it they say, higher orders in Pan American were offset by weak orders in Japan and Europe. What does this mean?? If the orders are weak in
Japan then this could spell problems for DSC tomorrow. Would anyone
else like to comment? Thanks!
