Media Said Texas Was Set for 'Blue Wave' — Ted Cruz Got More Votes Than All Dems Combined
The media recently warned of a “blue wave” that could hit Texas, as Rep. Beto O'Rourke is challenging to unseat Sen. Ted Cruz in November. O'Rourke made headlines after he repeatedly out-raised Cruz, to the shock of many. In the first 45 days of 2018 alone, O'Rourke raised $2.2 million without the help of large PACs. If you were to only pay attention to the media coverage of the race, you may believe the “blue wave” is coming to Texas. However, Cruz got more votes in the primary than all of his Democratic challengers combined. Cruz came in at 1,317,450 votes, while his closest competitor, O'Rourke, only received 641,324 votes.
Cruz's closest Republican competitor, Mary Miller, got a whopping 94,451 votes, which is less than 10 percent of what the popular senator received.
The governor's race was also swept away by Republican voter turnout after Gov. Greg Abbott received 1,392,294 votes, while his closest competitor, Democrat Lupe Valdez, received 436,659 votes.
