Koan,
We had high taxes on the rich and vibrant unions and good social programs in the 50's and 60's and were in the best shape ever!
I wasn't alive in the 50's and 60's, but to say that we were in the "best shape ever" goes against everything I've read about those times.

Vietnam, racism, Cold War, Cuban missile crisis, presidential assassinations, a hippie culture that kicked off the decay of American society ... and all of that culminating in the stagflation of the 70's, which had to be reversed by Reagan.

But hey, the top tax rate was 91%. Life was good, right? Uh no. Along came JFK, a Democrat, who lowered it because he recognized that it was doing more harm than good.

That's the only way you can "defend" liberalism, Koan. By rewriting history.
