The claim that a 2 firms had to sell their stock due to margin calls is extremely suspect. If they were buy side firms (money mgt. firms), it is incredibly tough to believe that the small decline forced a margin call. My "read" on the post suggesting the margin call thesis is that it is suggested that it was market makers being shaken out (combined with market maker dropping making a market), as mentioned in a previous post. that is even less likely, since especially in these volatile times, market makers attempt to flatten positions by the end of each trading day, and especially before a weekend. market makers would have been out for certain by the close on friday, yet the stock went down today, so something smells a little...fishy.
