3/9/2018 Contest update
Whether you’re tops in the Contest or your real world stock picks have made you bundles of dough, there’s no reason for hubris. At least that is what’s suggested by the research described in this article:
technologyreview.com
Of course, anyone (including yours truly) who ever picked a winning stock believes the above finding is Fake News. ;~)
Meanwhile biotechs had a boffo week and, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 17.35% YTD (vs. up 12.74% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 7.15% YTD (vs. up 2.78% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 13.78% YTD (vs. up 8.50% YTD a week ago), with the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) up 9.52% YTD (vs. up 5.13% YTD a week ago).
RKRW’s portfolio, up 44.99% YTD, held on to the Contest lead, but closing in were second place STEVEL’s portfolio, up 43.83% YTD, and third place JASON’s portfolio, up 42.65% YTD.
At Friday's close, 59 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 54 still beating the NBI and 38 now beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks have an awesome average YTD gain of 15.68% and median YTD gain of 8.09%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments:
1) JUNO buyout at $87 by Celgene. I used 3/6/18 closing prices for reallocation.
2) CASC buyout at $10 by Seattle Genetics. I used 3/9/18 closing prices for reallocation.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a relaxing weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
