Any technology from the 90's will be NEW to the Atlantic and Pacific fleets, for the most part. (Except, of course, where state-of-the-art is required.) Many of the ships' systems still don't have the processing power of a Pentium 120 PC. I'd guess their data networks are late 80's technology too. Hell, the project to get the Cabletron ATM technology probably started in 1995. The US military doesn't move too fast unless there is a war going on.
