After small, dusty, and sleepy Santa Fe, I'm enjoying Houston a lot. It's a big, modern, and clean city. It works. It's America doing well, (and prior to 2017, too).
I've been doing netflicks discs lately and somehow I've been seeing a lot of films about young women that are all excellent. The Florida project, The Diary of a Teenage Girl, Starlet, I Tonya--none of them as light-hearted as Paterson, all of them darker, but all are good movies.
For those of you who live outside of Texas, you should know that Beto O'Rourke stands a real chance of unseating Ted Cruz. I know you guys probably have a stereotypical concept of Texas, but Texas is going to turn blue in 2020 or 2022 anyway, but with Beto, it has a real chance to turn blue this year. I used to drink with Beto's dad in the 80's, and I've drunk with Beto in the naughts. I've flirted with his mom, and some of my photographs hang on his walls. I'm not just excited about him because I know him, I believe he is a man to be reckoned with. He beat an incumbent to win a seat on the El Paso City Council, and then he beat an 8-term Hispanic incumbent to get to the House of Representatives in a heavily Hispanic district. He has incredible political instincts. Even if he doesn't beat Cruz this year, this guy's going places. If it is your wont to support politicians, consider helping him out, helping turn Texas blue. (You can find his website, and if you don't like his politics, I won't discuss it with you here in the Tub.) |
