OT: I'm coming along with a major repair to my home. It's mostly brick, but has some siding and the siding on the north side was shot.

I'm using Smart-Siding, which is a composite wood panel. What is better is Hardy-Board, which is a composite cement panel, but it's super heavy and hard to work with without breaking it, so I was afraid of it.

At some point in the future I plan have vinyl or steel siding professionally installed over it. I'm replacing the original siding before doing that, but what people often don't think of buying a home with permanent siding is that they don't know what's under it.
