I don't think it is going to happen in the next, say, 2 or even 3 years. And I don't think that Mr. Market looks ahead that far. Heck, we even had Buffet claiming to be interested in buying an airline. Personally, I still own Delta and Southwest, have owned them for several years now. I expect to own them for at least another year, although I would sell if it looks like the economy is going to take a dive. I don't think driverless cars will affect them for awhile. But they might well affect them at some point.

These things will affect a lot of parts of the economy negatively. A large number of people make their living driving, from trucks to taxis to delivery services and more recently to Uber and Lyft. Many of them will be out of jobs. And what about the insurance industry? They will have to lay off a lot of people due to shrinking and/or disappearing premiums. How will they make money? What have they been trained to do? How will they be retrained? The disruption will be huge. Pizza places may say, oh good we'll cut our delivery costs. Well, the number of customers they have might also be cut as people won't be able to eat out.

Like the internet, it isn't an unalloyed positive thing. At all.
