LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 1998--The CompactFlash Association announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES'98) that CompactFlash cards from seventeen companies have passed the CF Compliance certification testing program. This certification program ensures the compliance of CompactFlash cards with the CompactFlash Specification. Products that have passed the certification program carry the CF(TM) logo and CompactFlash(TM) name. According to Yukichi Niwa, Senior General Manager, Canon, "Many companies are entering the CompactFlash business. Seventeen of them have now passed CFA's compliance test program and received certification. This fact impresses me and shows that CF is becoming public knowledge. More CF card suppliers adds up to a favorable opportunity for CompactFlash. "The wide availability by many suppliers will prompt host system makers to adopt CF as removable storage media for their system. I hope that CF card manufacturers continue to make an effort to defeat the price attack from other types of memory cards and consolidate CF's position as a de facto standard." Compatibility and interchangeability of all CompactFlash products have been major advantages for CompactFlash. CompactFlash is the only small form factor storage card that provides product compatibility certification assuring users that the CompactFlash products they buy today and in the future are all interchangeable and compatible. The CompactFlash storage card is an ultra-small, removable data storage system first introduced in 1994. CompactFlash (CF) cards can be used to store pictures taken with any CompactFlash or PC card, ATA (AT Attachment) compatible digital camera. In addition CF is supported in many other products including handheld PCs, palmtops, voice recorders and numerous other small or rugged systems. There are currently more that 120 design-in wins for CompactFlash. The CFA was founded in October 1995 and now has 90 member companies. Note to Editors: The CFA(logo) and CF(logo) are trademarks of the CFA and are licensed royalty free to CFA members. The CFA is a licensee of the CompactFlash trademark and in turn will license it royalty-free to CFA members.
