Unix runs on little machines like those which use NT4S, but the majority of Unix users are hooked up to humongus machines the likes of HP 9000, RS6000, Unisys, Sequent, DEC, Sun, stand alone or in clusters.. The smaller Unix systems have long since given away the lower end of the office evnironment to Networked PCs. All purveyors of small Unix class systems (Spelled S C O) now have the capability of supporting PCs with file and print services. I suggest you get a subscription to Computerworld and drop your Byte subscription.
Having Installed and supported both 3.2v4 and NT3.5 and NT4, I can also tell you from a technical and support issue that I much prefer the stable (read that NO CORE DUMPS or BLUE Screens ) Unix platforms. Unix is evolving just as NT4 is evolving to something better (hopefully).
Compaq ProLiant series supports either Operating software base (oops.. Novell also) quite well. Microsoft has a number of BIG ProLiants at Treeland. SCO Unix routinely battles over the TPC numbers using BIG ProLiants with HUGE disk Arrays.
