Part of that is the rigidity of age. People who do not remain life-long learners tend to become reactionary when they get older. Ah, once again, those "old people." As you know, I'm definitely in that group and find much more variability than the cliches suggest. I'm on three different boards at the moment and run a community wide listserv. I can promise you that political rigidity is a problem at all levels. As for the effects of Fox News, could not agree more. When I revisit my old home town, it's running in every public place--restaurants, motel offices, banks, and so on. I've had some conversations about it. And have been told whether they like it or not, their customers do and complain if it's on anything else.
