Good lord we had 2,000 years of Christianity and it was called the Dark Ages with pervasive torture and death for heresy. We only started to evolve into a modern day humanitarian society when we shook off the primitive dogma of the church and separated church and state. The Nordic countries have the most income equality and quality of life and they are mostly atheists, as am I. Read some history on what happened to people who went against the church in the middle ages! They were tortured and burned at the stake or drawn and quartered. And where did the church ever forbid slavery segregation or advocate for democracy?
