In this case we know, for example, that when guns are restricted, not only does the suicide rate with guns goes down, so does the overall suicide rate. We also know that the assaults with guns in domestic disputes goes down.

Know we don't. And we certainly don't know how large of factor such restrictions have been.

We do know that as guns have become much more numerous in the US the use of them in assaults and murder during domestic disputes has gone down. Again though correlation does not equal causation.
