I agree, I recently saw a program which discussed the benifits of cloning and embryo manipulation. Seems couple who are predisposed to genetically passing on some horrible diseases are finding allot of help with new techniques.

It does lead to some morally difficult decisions though. What if we get to the point that when a mother has her blood tested she will know right away if the baby is malformed or suffering from some disease like Turret syndrome.

EVENTUALLY, GENE THERAPY WILL BE DONE IN THE WOMB TO CORRECT IT.

Is the doctor required to inform the mother?
YES.
Should the doctor recommend termination?
YES, UNLESS TREATABLE.
Should the doctor try and change the embryo through manipulation?
YES.
What are the mothers rights?
TOTAL OVER THE FETUS.
Should the state be required to care for the infant if the parents knew at an early stage?
NO.
Should we allow gender selection to be available to everyone?
YES, IF THEY WANT IT AND CAN PAY FOR IT.

Here's one I really think we will one day face. If we can manipulate at the embryonic state a process which prolongs life, say 100's of years. Who should be allowed to use it? Everyone? Select few?
How would we chose?

EVERYONE -- A GOOD INCENTIVE FOR INTERPLANETARY AND INTERSTELLAR SPACE COLONIZATION.

I bet the overpopulation fanatics would have a field day with that one :-)
OVERPOPULATION FANATICS ARE OVERPOPULATED.

BTW, I ALREADY CAME TO TERMS WITH THE MORAL, ETHICAL, SCIENTIFIC AND LEGAL RAMIFICATIONS OF CLONING BACK IN THE `60s. SO, NEXT QUESTION: SHOULD ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND/OR SENTIENT ANDROIDS BE ACCORDED FULL HUMAN RIGHTS AND (IF PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE) PERMITTED TO MATE WITH HUMANS?

I GUESS THE QUESTION IS, WOULD YOU WANT YOUR SISTER TO MARRY ONE?
