Don't laugh. Medicare for all very well may be the next step in the war on health in this country. The Socialist won't stop until free, high quality care is going to the bottom 20% who don't work and the other 80% die off because they can no longer afford to pay for it. Medicare for all is in their sights. I have no doubt about it.

I had a funny and sad argument with my 92 year old dad a long while ago. He went through some heart issues and the total bill over 45 days was $250K, almost all of it paid for by a combination of his supplemental insurance and his Medicare. He was complaining about something or other in the way they treated him and made him go see certain doctors. I shot back quick and sarcastic and told him to stop bitching, because he lives in the golden age of health care in this country. By the time I need health care, there won't be anything left. By the time I reach the age to get Social Security, there won't be anything left. So I told him to just enjoy what he has, because his generation and the Baby Boomers have sucked this country dry and the coming generations will pay the full cost of that profligacy with vastly lower standards of living.

So on the one hand, I am super happy my dad is still with us and that he gets good care. However, that kind of money spent on the retired folks right now simply can't last. It's too much being spent in too short of a period. It is literally bankrupting this country and either people don't care or they don't understand mathematics well enough to understand that this ponzi scheme can't continue for too much longer.

Ultimately, I would love more than anything to believe in the Socialist Dream. Unfortunately, I was born with a good head for math. So it's like eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge. Once you understand things and see things with a clear head, you may not like what you see and you can't unlearn the facts of math you've learned. I wish the Socialist Dream was possible, but I know it is only possible in Heaven, not hear on earth, not in a sustainable way. Socialism is a parasite that takes from the workers to give to people who don't work, until there is no money left to redistribute. Then it devolves into bondage and Dictatorship to squeeze the last juice out of the workers. It's always been that way, but in some countries it just takes more time than in others. The Nordic countries will find this out soon enough. Sovereign wealth funds made out of oil money only last as long as the oil lasts or as long as oil remains valuable. Once that is gone, how will they make up the difference with a population that has become used to getting things for free? Will they be able to unlearn their dependency on an unreliable and fickle government? That will be a hard transition for them. But hell, they come from Viking stock. They'll figure it out.
