I think you are kind of crazy if you think teachers have a union like the teamsters. The mafia (despite what the right wing thinks) is not active in teacher's unions. The union represents teachers- so that they have decent pay, so that people will want to be teachers. There's a teacher shortage in a lot of right wingy states- because of people like you, who've seen teachers as the enemy. See them that way and they'll leave.

And if you looked at the article, you'll see there is a large statistical correlation between kids tortured at home and home schooling. It's ideal, really, to get the kid away from the prying eyes of adults. It's like having a kid in a confessional- but permanently. A certain percentage of adults, who have complete control over a child and little oversight, will do terrible things to that child- or they will raise a child who will do terrible things. We have several recent notable cases- including the Austin bomber and the Turpins- but those are just the very recent cases that made the news. The more I read this morning, the more alarmed I was- because there are a lot of cases. Inspections definitely would help, and should be done. Every state should have them- unfortunately right now every state does not have such inspections.
