If showing in a French cinema is a requirement for entry into Cannes and Netflix didn't comply, then Netlfix has nothing to complain about. I believe the requirement is the same in the U.S. for entry into the Oscars, the film has to be shown in a U.S. theater. There are different rules for foreign films, but that's the gist of it.

I haven't seen many Netflix original films, but I have enjoyed many of their original series. Black Mirror, Ozark, Mindhunter, The Crown, and Stranger Things among them. I've heard good things about shows like Peaky Blinders and Narcos, but I haven't seen them yet.

As for finding Stranger Things boring, may I ask how old you are? It appealed to a lot of people who grew up during the 1980's because it had so many references to things from that period. If you were too young to remember the 80's or not born yet, I can see how it might not appeal to you. I also find that many younger people need constant stimulation in anything they watch these days, so anything that isn't constant action and destruction don't hold their attention for long. They should stick to films like Pacific Rim or movies in the Fast and Furious garbage franchise.
