At White House Full of Shitheads, the chaos grows, leaving key policies in shambles

From the outset of his administration, President Trump has injected a sense of upheaval into discussions of critical policy issues. In recent weeks, however, the chaos has grown in magnitude. Sowing confusion about critical policies and programs, current and proposed, has become a routine political strategy.
On the domestic front, the president has unveiled his own substitute for the Affordable Care Act that would, by all accounts, wreak widespread havoc with the US health care system.
He has trimmed the mandate of the Environmental Protection Agency and embraced an energy policy that puts the interests of corporations ahead of considerations of human health and safety.

Some Dreamers may remain in the United States, but only if the border wall is built, and only if many undocumented immigrants, newly criminalized, are ushered out. Emma Lazarus is toast.

The president’s actions on the international stage are equally frightening. Saber-rattling at North Korea and Iran make war more likely. The United States will follow its already announced withdrawal from the Paris agreement on global warming with withdrawal from UNESCO, and on grounds supported virtually only by Israel. The horrific mayhem directed against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar proceeds unaddressed.
Whether on health care or Iran, the origins of current proposals lie not in the rigorous examination of carefully considered alternatives but in the racist impulse to deny the nation’s first black president his principal domestic and international accomplishments.
Policy making based on confusion and buck-passing, on spin and spite, serve neither the nation’s time-tested values nor its enduring interests.
