Regarding consumer safety and Chinese products. Standards are important. Institutional standards and integrity are vital. Check NIST and the EPA. They don't work properly when they are supposed to. i.e. youtube.com I would focus at getting the weak links fixed at home before trying to fix foreign manufacturing problems. How TF is that crap Chinese stuff getting to be imported anyway?
