It's no surprise that the top 3 networking stocks of '97 are more appropriately called Telecom equipment stocks. With CSCC, ASND in 1998 is also in some respects a Telcom equipment stock. So, will 1998 be a repeat of 1997? Also, with ASND, you can play both the Telco market and the RAS/RAC market. The symbiotic diversity within the company that that creates certainly will be helpful to ASND in 1998. Does it makes sense to anyone for ASND to seek a big entry into xDSL, as with PAIR? Part of me says no, as ASND stands to gain thru core switching anyway if DSL gets hot. And, DSL by acquisition would be expensive, as with CSCC. Just curious. Any thoughts? Gary Korn
