NRiD's attempt to move up the food chain will only take place with the cooperation of the lower level biometric companies. If they are not HA-API compliant then NRiD's software will not work with their application and will therefore be of little use. NRiD forcing the larger, more established biometric application companies to conform to their HA-API configuration is like the tail trying to wag the dog. Identix would only want to become HA-API compliant if they were performing on a contract for the DOD that required integration of multiple forms of biometric security on a higher level, such as a smartcard. If NRiD throws a party and nobody comes they will have a lot of stale chips. You will find this out when Microsoft laughs the NRiD representatives out of their office. Even if Identix becomes HA-API compliant they could develop their own advanced applications using HA-API as a base without paying NRiD a dime because HA-API is in the public domain. This would bump NRiD off the bench at the dinner table. Do you really think that NRiD has the only software geniuses that could write and expand upon HA-API?
