I am a self confessed breadaholic. I hate fluffy white bread where you can take a slice and roll it between your thumb and forefingers into a ball the size of a pea. I love bread with mouth appeal. I like a real French baguette.. I am talking real baguette ... the kind a Frenchman would buy and put sideways on his rat-trap rear bicycle carrier and bike home... not the pretend baguette you get in North America that dries out before you get it home.

I like a full bodied rye bread. I lived in Toronto near to a Polish bakery and they made a double rye that could sink a battleship. This was 20 years ago (I know better now) but I would eat that loaf by myself with butter and peanut butter in 2 days.

I still don't understand people that go out of their way to buy fresh bread and take a week to eat it... why don't they buy day old bread if they want to do that at half the price.

I like European dark bread... the stuff you almost have to soak in water a bit to make it soft enough to eat... hard crust/soft chewy interior.

I can stay off bread for a week or so but then I crave a sandwich. I think to myself that is okay... just one sandwich. But it is like offering an alcoholic a small glass of wine, saying this won't hurt you, it is just a small glass to be sociable..

I can avoid cakes, pastries, pizza and cookies with no problem... but bread is my Waterloo.

One thing I have discovered though is instead of a bun for hamburgers, I take 2 portabella mushrooms, Fry them and put condiments, lettuce and tomato between them and eat like a hamburger... Very nice but haven't found these outside my home.
