Ie, of course you make valid points but I believe you are only looking at the micro-picture, which is short-term at best. (For one thing, ust think, are Asian citizens going to turn in their gold to the government?) The reason gold is becoming so important in Asia is because, in many nations such as SKorea and Indonesia, the value has DOUBLED in a month. The real key you want to be focusing on is, where is the dollar going? Is it an infallible currency, or will weakness in Asia hurt the US economy fundamentally and cause weakness in the dollar? POG will move in the opposite direction to the dollar, and the real movement in POG will be caused by central banks and not by private citizens.
