I thought gelled inserts would solve the problem, I'd say it helps a little. However 31 years on a concrete floors & steel decks didn't help, but the rolled sock feeling came about 5 years ago and hasn't gone away. I've had Plantar Fasciitis on the foot ball before and that's painful to. Kept rolling on a frozen water container. Finally the ball of the foot felt better after doing this for awhile. The company gave all the pressman some cushioned floor mats where we mostly stand about 10 years ago.
