Considering this, the A1C is only valid for patients who have some consistency in their diet. Although, in theory, the A1C indicates sugar management over time, it's significantly influenced by the most recent eating habits.
Your hemoglobin absorb sugar from your blood but every 3 months hemoglobin is replaced by new hemoglobin which is available for sugar absorption. So this is like a stock market 3 day simple moving average where 3 days of stock prices are added and divided by 3 to get the 3 day SMA... the next day kicks off the oldest day price adds the newest day price divides by 3 and you get the next 3 day SMA.

You cannot really cheat to get low HA1C values... to cheat you would have to cheat for a whole month solid and then I submit you may be on the road to changing your eating habits... which would be a good thing, right. To cheat for a few days is meaningless since the process is continuous as new hemoglobin does not replace old hemoglobin on a monthly basis... it happens every minute of every day.

Why the HA1C is important is that it gives the physician or diabetes specialist a way of determining how you are managing your diet... your body is providing them a trending tool that would be unavailable to them short of them requiring you to measure your blood sugars every hour of every day.

The HA1C lets them know if your meds are working or not or if you are not maintaining a good diet... it serves the basis of talking about your meds and or changes you have been making.

There is no changes possible by just-be-being good for a few days before the test... hence cheating if tried would not change the HA1C appreciably without a major change in your diet or meds for a period of time approaching a month or more...to repeat myself.
