4/6/2018 Contest update
Who would have guessed that the first casualties of Trump’s trade war with China would not be in Beijing but on Wall Street? Biotech investors were not spared, but notably the Contest median remains in the green while both biotech indexes are now down for the year.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 6.78% YTD (vs. up 7.87% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -5.37% YTD (vs. down -0.07% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -2.22% YTD (vs. up 3.49% YTD a week ago), with the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) up .17% YTD (vs. up 2.32% YTD a week ago).
AKOFNY’s portfolio, up 45.11% YTD, continues to lead the Contest pack, while SPTAD’s portfolio, up 28.05% YTD, has moved into second place and last year’s Contest winner, KMASTR’s portfolio, up 25.89% YTD, has moved into third place.
At Friday's close, 40 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with an impressive 54 beating the NBI and 44 beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 2.10% and median YTD loss of -3.65%, with 98 showing a gain for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Have a relaxing weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
