I don't think there is one book that can tell you the "people's history." However, that particular one is a very poor representation of true history. Which is the reason he left off citations and references.

The truth about slavery is, I believe, set out well in the autobiography of Frederick Douglass, although I wish there were more.

My favorite history of all time is "The Last Days of the Incas", which I would love to have time to read again. But American history, I sort of decided a long time ago you get the best of it by reading biographies of presidents. But when I was reading a lot of history, I'd tend to get off course sometimes. Now, I have so much other stuff I need to be reading I don't have time for it.
