Well, I didn’t criticize it as a work of fiction. Not exactly what I would choose as a fiction piece, but the problem is that so many people take it as fact, and it just isn’t. I had a lengthy argument about it with a radio talk show host, maybe ten years ago — while Zinn’s was still alive, I remember that. He was very enamored with the book.
But if you actively look at the criticisms, they are scholarly, many in number, and often extremely harsh.
I didn’t really enjoy the book, but I kept trying to figure out where the claims were coming from. Not a reference to be found.
It was well written, but I saw a critic's comment that said s9mething like, “For many people it will be the first book they read, and for many of those, it will be the ONLY book they read.”
When you consider that, you like to have something very well sourced. |
