In Canada you are compelled by law to use the gender pronoun any individual chooses for themselves. This type of legislation imposes a barrier to the basic problem solving utility of free speech. In my response I was thinking US, where we both live. I'm pretty sure that no one in Canada is being arrested for failure to refer someone as "ze." Even if so, how would that be legislating morality, which I thought was our topic? You used the term, "Biblical standards." Seems to me that the issues around legislating pronoun use are free speech and hate crimes, not morality.
