We went on a cruise to Grand Turk in February, which just recently opened up for tourism. As you can see in the first picture below, they literally had to blast a section of the coral out to build a dock big enough to accommodate ships. They only have one dock that accommodates two ships at a time now, but we saw that they are working on putting in another dock just up the beach from where we landed when we were there.

The island is very small........we took a ride around............and very poor. I said to my husband then that this island could not stand too many humans coming ashore and vacationing without sever restrictions. In my opinion, the most desirable tourist destinations around the world will eventually have to rely upon a lottery system if they want to maintain the beautiful and pristine environments that attract so many people.
