In a way, Republicans are Socialist in that they redistribute money from you and me to the military and corporations of their choosing.
Military spending is only socialist if it is justified by the number of jobs it "creates."

That's how corrupt politicians like John Murtha was able to create an "Airport to Nowhere" in his congressional district. He got the military to station a bunch of planes there. There is no strategic value to that, only Murtha's unapologetic desire to bring home the bacon.

But military spending for the actual purpose of national defense is not "socialist." Instead, that's one of the core duties of the federal government.
